Ways to Market Yourself as a Freelancer

As a freelancer you have to keep thinking of ways to get the word out about your services, so what options do you have that you can use today to get the word out?

1. Use a Blog – Pretty straight forward, you can have a wordpress blog up in no time following our post on wordpress. Use the blog to really showcase your talents. Teach tips, tricks and even provide the odd freebie once in a while. People love that.

2. Friends – We sometimes forget that friends are more likely to spread the word than a client you have just had, so ask family and friends to pass on the word to others about your services

3. Publications – Untapped potential publications are.. look for major, medium and minor publications both locally and further a field.

4. Guest Writing – Many blogs now days and papers are looking for writers. Find related blogs and ask if you can be a guest poster.

5. Teach Locally – Many colleges and universities are strapped for people to help. So why not contact your local college, tell them what you do and offer to help. They may have some paid positions.

6. Join Organizations – Rub shoulders with others who are the type of people that could use your services. Its not what you know but who you know a lot of the time. So get out there and dig up some organzations

7. Contact Clients Directly – Take out the yellow pages. I have a friend of mine that does this with his business. He goes through every business using their email or phone number and contacts them cold. He has secured weeks of work doing this.

8. Free work – As they say, people dont care about what you have to say until they see you care.. Sometimes doing some volunteer work can open up doors for paid work.
